Choose any size in MB or GB. Bro creates the archive on your Mac, backs its volumes up to the destination, and reads every checksum back before calling the set complete.

Bro uses macOS’s archive engine to preserve folders, links, permissions, access controls, extended attributes, dates, and sparse data.

Enter 1 MB, 100 MB, 1 GB, or another practical size. Every non-final .brovol reaches that exact limit.

Two proofs

Local first, destination second.

Each volume and the combined stream receive SHA-256 checksums. Bro verifies the local set, transfers it resumably, then verifies the destination set again.

Restart ready

Continue after interruption.

An interrupted destination copy resumes from partial data. An interrupted local archive safely restarts without exposing an incomplete set.

One action

Restore every folder.

Choose Restore Backup, select the .brobackup folder, and choose a destination. Bro reads all volumes in sequence automatically.

Fail closed

Nothing appears early.

Restore verifies every volume before extraction, checks every restored file, and reveals the final item only after the complete result matches.

Bro keeps two checksummed recovery-journal generations and can continue after a pause, an unmounted drive, a restart, or a power loss.

Two folders, one careful union

Sync without guessing what you meant.

Bro makes Folder A and Folder B contain the same union of items. Missing files copy to the other side. A missing item is never silently treated as a deletion.

Non-destructive

Missing means restore.

If an item exists on only one side, Bro copies it to the other. To permanently delete an item, remove it from both folders before Sync.

Your decision

Different versions wait.

Choose Keep Folder A, Keep Folder B, or Keep Both for every same-path conflict. Choices persist across a quit or restart.

Recoverable

The losing version has a safe exit.

Before replacement, Bro moves the other version into a hidden recovery archive and lists its exact location in the report.

Change aware

Stale choices do not survive.

If either version changes while Bro waits or transfers, Bro discards the stale plan, compares again, and asks when needed.

Network ready

Thousands travel efficiently.

Small files use resumable rsync batches for NAS performance, then each item is checksum verified and committed individually.

Accountable

Every Sync explains itself.

The final report counts additions, updates, conflicts, Keep Both copies, skipped matches, safety replans, warnings, bytes, and recovery locations.

The name

Bro means bridge in Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish—a broad name for a utility that connects folders, drives, Macs, and mounted network storage.

Bro 0.4.0 is available as a free beta utility. The download contains one notarized, self-contained Mac app—no installer and no required place to keep it.

Beta notice: Do not use Bro with mission-critical data. Keep an independent copy until you have verified the transfer or completed a successful restore.

Direct cloud-provider connections through rclone are on the future roadmap; this release focuses on local folders, external drives, and mounted network storage.
