Your files do not leave the route you chose.

The short version

Bro reads the files you select and writes them only to the destination you choose. It does not upload file contents, filenames, or transfer history to Verkheim. The app has no account, analytics, advertising, telemetry, or remote crash reporting.

Information stored on the Mac

Bro keeps the following local information so transfers can recover:

• Source and destination paths, Folder A and Folder B paths, or local and final archive paths for jobs.
• Operation, progress, status, dates, byte counts, and error messages.
• Two checksummed recovery-journal generations and per-file SHA-256 manifests.
• Durable Sync plans, conflict choices, and per-version SHA-256 fingerprints while a Sync is unfinished.
• Readable transfer receipts and Sync reports saved locally after a job finishes.
• A temporary cleanup plan while a verified safe move is finishing.
• Small bounded diagnostic logs that record stages and errors without recording transfer paths.

These records remain under ~/Library/Application Support/Bro unless you separately back up or synchronize that folder.

When a Sync replaces one version, the losing file stays locally in a hidden recovery folder on the same destination volume. Bro does not upload that recovery copy; its location is listed in the local Sync report.

Backup / Archive writes the numbered archive volumes and Bro Backup.json manifest only to the local archive folder and backup destination you choose. Those files contain the original relative paths and SHA-256 checksums needed for restore.

Notifications and diagnostic exports

Bro can ask macOS to show local completion, waiting, and attention notifications. Their contents stay on the Mac. If you explicitly export a diagnostic ZIP, Bro omits complete paths and filenames, replacing paths with short one-way fingerprints. The ZIP is not sent anywhere automatically; you decide whether and where to share it.

Network connections

Bro can transfer to a mounted network folder you choose. The network connection is provided by macOS, Finder, or your storage system; Bro works with the mounted path like an ordinary folder. That storage system, VPN, DNS, or network equipment may have its own logging and privacy behavior.

Bro also reads https://verkheim.com/bro/version.json when you choose Check for Updates. The file contains only public release information. Bro does not attach transfer information or file paths.

This website

The Bro website is informational and is not required for file transfers. Like ordinary hosted websites, the hosting provider may process routine request information needed to deliver pages and protect the service.
